Calibration and Uniformity of Solid Manure Spreaders

چکیده
Introduction ield experience and research demonstrate that manure nutrients can be readily substituted for commercial fertilizer. Fertilizer needs depend on soil test levels. Substituting manure at a lower cost than commercial fertilizer can result in signifi cant savings if relatively uniform application and distribution can be maintained. The less nutrient-dense manure requires more hauling of material to the fi eld. To take full advantage of fertilizer in manure, correct application rates and uniform application are important issues. Typical nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P), and potassium (K) contained in different manure sources are detailed in Iowa State University Extension publication, Managing Manure Nutrients for Crop Production (PM 1811).

Regulating farmer nutrient management: a three-state case study on the delmarva peninsula.
Growing concern about water quality issues, along with a series of fish kills in 1997, prompted Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia to adopt regulations to reduce nutrient pollution from agricultural nonpoint sources. All three states required farmers to follow a state-certified nutrient management plan that would "optimize crop yields and minimize environmental losses," although the policy-making...
متن کاملEconomic Comparison of Liquid Manure Transport and Land Application
A spreadsheet‐based manure transport and land application decision tool, MANURE$HAUL, was developed to provide farmers, custom applicators, and others involved with manure management a manure cost and labor calculator for liquid manure systems using top‐loading tank spreaders and nurse tanks. The manure hauling capacity was a function of the machinery set selected, manure tank capacity, and hau...
متن کاملApplication of Near-Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy for Determination of Nutrient Contents in Liquid and Solid Manures
Proper application of livestock manure to agricultural land converts waste to fertilizer, but relies on knowing the nutrient content of the manure. Manure samples (111 solid poultry layer, 95 solid poultry broiler litter, 39 swine solid hoop, 72 beef cattle, 85 swine slurry, and 88 swine liquid lagoon) were collected from farms in three states to investigate the feasibility and limitations for ...
متن کاملManure sampling for nutrient analysis: variability and sampling efficacy.
Reliable estimation of nutrient concentrations is required to manage animal manure for protecting waters while sustaining crop production. This study was conducted to investigate sample variability and reliable nutrient analysis for several manure types and handling systems. Serial samples were collected from dairy, swine, and broiler poultry operations while manure was being loaded onto hauler...
متن کاملBiomass production and heavy metal content of Rosmarinus officinalis grown on MSW compost and cattle manure
Background & Aim: Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is an evergreen and aromatic plant that is used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries-health. Little research has been reported on the greenhouse production of this plant. This paper presents the effects of municipal solid waste compost (MSWC) and cattle manure on rosemary growth in pots at greenhouse. Martial & Methods: Munic...
